A media narrative has emerged this season that Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior are both selfish players who cannot coexist and are at a detriment to Real Madrid, but, lately, Madridistas are having a harder time believing in this false equivalency.
It all stemmed from this idea that Vinicius Jr., who is often visibly animated anyway, got Xabi Alonso fired. There is no actual evidence that Vinicius Jr. or his teammates who won multiple Champions League titles and got along with plenty of other managers and players did this. People just pointed to him being mad at his substitution in El Clasico. But he never once badmouthed Alonso, nor were there any leaks or actual indications of him wanting the coach gone. The reality is Florentino Perez and the club gave up on Alonso early and fired him because they didn't believe in him and were troubled by both his poor results and felt he didn't fit Real Madrid as a coach.
But what Real Madrid fans did see recently against Real Oviedo was Kylian Mbappe trying to get Alvaro Arbeloa fired. He pulled up injured the night before El Clasico, so Arbeloa had him come off the bench to ease him back into action against Oviedo - and, by the way, true to his word, he started him against Sevilla a few days after that.
Real Madrid fans and Kylian Mbappe are in a toxic relationship
But Mbappe was not happy, criticized Arbeloa publicly by creating his own press conference after the game, and he even exclaimed that Real Madrid lost without him in the Copa del Rey, throwing his teammates under the bus. It was a bizarre press conference in which the mask fell off, and with Real Madrid playing better without Mbappe and even Gonzalo Garcai showing more efficiency in front of goal, Mbappe's immature words were the last straw for many long time members of the fan base, who were already booing Mbappe during the Oviedo game.
Well, now, Josep Pedrerol is making a weird about face. Because whereas most of those around Real Madrid, whether fans or media members, are turning on Kylian Mbappe and pointing out how he is turning Madrid into a state of dysfunction like he did at PSG, Pedrerol has been making impassioned defenses of Mbappe on El Chiringuito.
Now, Pedrerol is even turning reporter again, which is never a good sign. He is alleging that Mbappe's inner circle believe Vinicius Junior is trying to make Kylian Mbappe look like the bad guy.
Although Pedrerol gets big interviews like Florentino Perez on his program, veteran Real Madrid fans know his show is more for entertainment than serious reporting. And his track record with reporting news is incredibly poor these days, including with Mbappe. Remember his near guarantees in 2021 that Mbappe would be coming that summer?
This report isn't even opaque at all, to may fans. They feel it is a transparent ploy from a camp to smear Vinicius Junior and get his name in the mud to distract from Mbappe, and the Real Madrid fans are not buying it at all.
Take a look at this reaction and then this reaction as well (NSFW) with hundreds of likes on social media, and there are many, many posts like this to get a sense of both the vitriol at Kylian Mbappe and how much this report has backfired. If Mbappe's camp is behind this leak to Pedrerol - and you would seriously wonder who else would pass along such bizarre information anyway - then it is clearly not working and will only make the actual fans of Real Madrid (and not the Mbappe cultists, who don't actually matter to the club in the long run) even more mad.
The situation is becoming more toxic by the week, and all these leaks and anonymous backbiting sources are making Real Madrid worse. And Real Madrid are really becoming like PSG with all this toxicity, which, for many fans, points to the moles and leaks coming from the Mbappe camp just to make the others look bad or create red herrings to distract from the fact that with the Frenchman, Real Madrid have went from La Liga and Champions League winners to trophyless in two straight seasons.
