Despite Real Madrid president Florentino Perez's love for star left winger Vinicius Junior, who has kept his favored position even after the signing of Kylian Mbappe, the two parties remain at a contract impasse. Negotiations have been ongoing for years at this point, and Madridistas are viewing the reports of their contract talks as a running meme at this point.
Although there have been rumblings of a deal being close between Vinicius Jr. and Real Madrid, as Madridistas probably already figured out by now, that is not actually the case. According to a report from veteran Madrid journalist Jorge C. Picon, Real Madrid do not plan on raising their financial offer to the Brazilian superstar by even a single euro.
Picon reports that Real Madrid sent an offer on the table to Vinicius a long time ago, but Vini's reps continue to ask for a total financial package above anything the club have ever spent - even above the deal that brought in Kylian Mbappe from PSG as a free agent in 2024.
Vinicius Jr. is drifting away
While Real Madrid reportedly still want to keep Vinicius Jr. around in the Spanish capital, they are not able to reach an agreement right now because Vini will not agree to their terms. And Picon thinks this impasse will continue to drag until after the World Cup.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid fans watching this saga unfold can't help but think the worst about Vinicius's future in the capital. Look, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. clearly cannot coexist with each other, and this past week's horrible results since Mbappe's return from a knee injury have sealed that.
These two get in each other's way. Their body language is atrocious. The team is somehow worse with these two on the pitch together despite their obvious talent, and it has cost a rift in the fan base pitting two elite players against each other.
And it is sad to see Vinicius Jr. the victim of this - the man Madridistas held above all the others after the 2023/24 season in which he was a great Ballon d'or candidate and a Champions League winner for the second time. And this time, he was THE clear star of the knockout stages without Karim Benzema around, one year removed from his departure to Saudi Arabia.
As the negotiations drag on with no agreement and Real Madrid dig their heels on on their terms while Vini cuts an increasingly frustrated and- yes, even selfish - figure on the pitch, Madridistas can't help but wonder if each month without movement leads the Brazilian closer and closer away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
