The Kylian Mbappe saga is growing tiresome for Real Madrid fans. Since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2024, Real have been mired in more losing and controversey than ever before, and instead of trophies and honors, Los Merengues have been met with moles, anonymous sources, and backstabbing in the locker room, which were the hallmarks of the French superstar's time with PSG, especially towards the end of his reign before joining Madrid.
Lately, Real Madrid fans can't get a sense of when Mbappe wants to play or when he doesn't, as there have been dispersions cast on the nature of his injury. Mbappe apparently had a season ending injury that would keep him out until the World Cup with France. Then it was termed an overload. Then he was back in training after cameras "caught" him on vacation in Italy. And then when Real Madrid were not going to start him in El Clasico, he left the last minutes of the last training before the game injured and did not even bother training with his teammates.
Real Madrid will battle Real Oviedo on Thursday in La Liga, and there has been a lot of speculation and uncertainty regarding Mbappe's status for the game. Some say he will definitely play these last three games of the season so he can be fully sharp for the World Cup fixtures for France, whereas others say that he doesn't want to face the Santiago Bernabeu's wrath after escaping El Clasico.
Mbappe's status remains uncertain
So what does the manager Alvaro Arbeloa say? Once again, a whole lot of nothing. The Real Madrid coach said of Kylian Mbappe's status for Oviedo at the press conference before the match, via the Madrid Zone, “Will Kylian Mbappe play? It depends on how he feels. He completed training on yesterday, and if he completes another one I hope he can play the next game and the other remaining ones, score goals and show the commitment he has for this team.”
"it depends on how he feels." Those words hold such a loaded meaning that Real Madrid fans are becoming sick of hearing them. They are tired of hearing word from the manager that nobody knows Mbappe's injury, nobody knows when he is coming back, and this on and off again cycle with no words or updates from Mbappe himself.
Arbeloa's comments sound more like Real Madrid are trying to see if Mbappe is motivated to play, rather than if they are waiting on a diagnosis or know anything about the injury. It is a frustrating situation, and Madridistas want to start seeing results.
