Although Kylian Mbappe won the Pichichi trophy as the highest scoring player in La Liga for a second straight season out of two, Real Madrid fans increasingly care less about the individual accolades for the Frenchman and actually want to see fewer of those given to a player whom they are beginning to view as the downfall as the club.
Real Madrid were the best team in Spain and Europe before Mbappe's arrival, and since his expensive free agent contract, the Royal Whites have won zero major trophies, which is an unthinkable prospect for this particular club.
Now 27 years of age, Mbappe is no longer a young player. This is it. He is expected to be in his prime and a generational talent, yet what Real Madrid fans have seen are empty calorie stats, a bad attitude, and a lack of synergy with any of the players in the team.
Real Madrid fans will see past Florentino Perez's praise
Yet Florentino Perez is still not wavering in his Golden Boy. Speaking at another press conference during the presidential election campaign against Enrique Riquelme, the incumbent doubled down on Mbappe, via the Madrid Zone, calling him the best player on the planet, "Kylian Mbappé is the best player in the world."
Maybe that refrain would have been lapped up by the Madridista faithful when Mbappe first joined the Royal Whites in 2024 or even last season after he broke Cristiano Ronaldo's record for goals in a Real Madrid debut season, but that is clearly not the case anymore.
It is impossible for Real Madrid fans to think Kylian Mbappe is the best in the world when they watched how the PSG attack played in getting their second straight Champions League, when they watched Vinicius Junior outplay Mbappe on the same team this calendar year, when they saw how Harry Kane and Michael Olise and even Luis Diaz dominated him and Madrid head to head in the Champions League quarterfinals, and when they get to watch Lamine Yamal laugh his way to La Liga titles in their face.
There are at least 10 players performing at a higher all around level than Mbappe in world football, probably 20 right now. The goals and individual highlights have become meaningless, and the more Florentino Perez pretends everything is fine with Mbappe, the more Madridistas are going to turn on the president next. Mbappe is not even one of the top five players on his team (Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler, and Fede Valverde are all more important), but it seems Perez does not realize it.
