Most of the news surrounding Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappe has been overwhelmingly negative in recent weeks, with reports leaking from the locker room about friction between himself and the other players, as well as the coaching staff.
With Real Madrid no longer winning games, frustrations are building with the marquee 2024 summer signing, given Real have not won trophies since his arrival - whereas the players themselves look more happy on the pitch without the Frenchman.
But Mbappe is here to stay.Real Madrid are not going to give up on Florentino Perez's golden boy, and the reigning European Golden Shoe winner has had his bright moments even in this difficult season, particularly in the first half of the campaign when the goals were really flowing out of that proverbial ketchup bottle.
Kylian Mbappe is closer to El Clasico
Mbappe has been blighted by injury in the second half of the season, but his latest issues may soon be behind him. According to a report from Melchor Ruiz of COPE, via Madrid Xtra, there is now optimism in the air that Kylian Mbappe will be ready to play this weekend in the do or die battle with Barcelona in El Clasico.
Initially, Real Madrid fans were upset that Mbappe was a doubt for the Barcelona game, and there were even rumors in the Spanish press accusing the player of not caring about this game with the World Cup on the horizon.
Although Mbappe still needs finalized formal testing to confirm his status for the Clasico, the idea that he is not trying to get back to the game seems to be 100 percent false. Mbappe has been working on the pitch and rehabbing to return to Real Madrid for their last gasp at a 1 percent chance at winning the La Liga title.
But it is a chance Real Madrid must take wholheartedly, if not for their pride on the line. And no player has lost more pride this season than Mbappe. His status is not yet confirmed for El Clasico, but, finally, there is some positive news and optimism in the air that Mbappe can make something happen and get on the field for Real Madrid.
Going forward, Real Madrid need to figure out how to get the most out of Mbappe and the team, and Mbappe does need to play his part better and actually try on defense. But it will be nice to have him out there vs. Barcelona.
