Real Madrid were able to beat rivals Barcelona 2-1 in the first Clasico of the season, and it has been a brilliant time for all fans. Real Madrid have needed a win like this for a very long time because of the year they have had, and how far behind they have been to Barcelona in these last two seasons.
It has been a difficult time for Real Madrid fans, but this win showed that they are getting closer to the level that their rivals have shown, and even though there are some problems with this Real Madrid team, they are slowly getting better at it.
If they play this way, there is no limit to what they can achieve, but that is not even the thing that is pleasing Real Madrid fans the most right now.
Real Madrid players fought for every ball, which was refreshing to see
It is the fact that there is so much fight left in this team. The way they played against Barcelona was a huge contrast to the last time they came to the Camp Nou in May, when they were defeated by Hansi Flick's men and had to see their biggest rivals win the league title in front of them.
It was less about the result and more about how depleted this Real Madrid side looked against Barcelona. They were missing some of their key players, but they were also missing all of their spark. They needed more hunger and passion going into the game, and it looked like these players felt defeated long before the match even started.
Last season, at the Bernabeu, when Real Madrid beat Barcelona with the same scoreline, a lot of their motivation had to do with starting a new era under Xabi Alonso as well as the infamous Lamine Yamal quotes before the Clasico. This season, it was different. It was a fight to stay relevant in the league title. It was to show fans that the players still care as much about the team as they do, and that there is still a lot more hunger left in this team than whatever they have shown in recent months.
They were able to do exactly that with such a huge win. They did not have any outside factor that increased their motivation. It was purely for footballing reasons, and they wanted to stay in this fight to win titles, and that is when they got the job done, which matters more.
They fought for every single ball, tried to score every time they got the ball and showed the courage, bite and grit that has been missing from this team for a very long time.
It shows that they care deeply about winning again, which is something that felt lost among these Real Madrid players just a few months ago.
