Real Madrid superstars Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe both found the back of the net in the 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves on Tuesday night in La Liga, as Los Blancos returned to winning ways after poor results against Girona, Bayern Munich, and Mallorca in their last four matches.

But while Real Madrid emerged victorious, nobody will be truly celebrating this game. Not only is a 2-1 win over Alaves expected, but Real Madrid also suffered some brutal injury news whose fallout could become much worse in the coming days.

In the first half of the game, Real's only top center back, Eder Militao, went down with yet another injury. And according to reporting from ESPN Deportes's Rodra P, the club have relayed that it appears the Brazilian star has suffered a left hamstring injury.

Eder Militao goes down

You may recall that Militao tore his left hamstring in December, which was his third major injury in three seasons after tearing his ACL in both the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons. Real Madrid fans can only hope that Militao has not suffered the same injury twice with regards to his left hamstring, either re-tearing it or suffering a new ailment that will cost him time.

Real Madrid do not have much more to play for other than pride this season, so shutting down Eder Militao and giving those minutes to someone else would be wise. Though, of course, Madrid are short handed already at center back with Raul Asencio dropping weight fast due to a gastrointestinal illness.

We have seen since Militao's return from injury just how good he is and how much better he is than the rest of the Real Madrid defenders, who are honestly all quite underwhelming. The second best center back in Madrid is either young Dean Huijsen or veteran Antonio Rudiger, with Huijsen still learning the ropes and Rudiger honestly not quite good enough to be starting for a club with Champions League title aspirations.

Militao's injury is yet another difficult injury blow in this nightmare of a season for Real Madrid, whose expectations have fallen well short since winning the 2023/24 Champions League and La Liga titles and subsequently signing Kylian Mbappe in summer 2024.

Real Madrid will have to roll with Huijsen and Rudiger as their main center back duo going forward, pending Militao's injury update. Their next game will be against Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin on Friday night, which is never an easy matchup.
