Real Madrid president Florentino Perez publicly announced that he is going to spend 150 million euros on a Galactico, and although he initially denied it, most journalists believe Perez is talking about Bayern Munich right winger Michael Olise, his new obsession after watching the Frenchman carve up his beloved Merengues in the Champions League quarterfinals.
But before the reporters zeroed in on Olise, many were thinking that Perez was talking about a superstar from PSG, specifically midfield targets Joao Neves and Vitinha. These two midfielders, either of them, would be the best possible signings for a Real Madrid side lacking technical qualitya and control at the base in the middle of the park.
At the same time, any reasonable Madridista could see that a move for a PSG superstar is wholly unrealistic. PSG have just won back to back Champions League titles, whereas Real Madrid have devolved into what PSG were before when they had Kylian Mbappe, filled with more drama than trophies. And given Vitinha's feelings about Mbappe, it is especially hard to envision him going to Madrid, regardless of the pull Jorge Mendes may have now with Jose Mourinho in charge.
The Joao Neves dream is over
According to a report from COPE, via Madrid Xtra, PSG are so uninterested in selling either Joao Neves or Vitinha that even a world record fee from Real Madrid for these players would be met by rejection. So Florentino Perez's 150 million euro bid would be nowhere near what PSG would even pretend to listen to, given the record fee was set by PSG themselves nearly 10 years ago when they bought Neymar from Barcelona.
Real Madrid are all in on Michael Olise, but when it comes to a superstar midfield target to round out their starting lineup, they are going to have to look in another direction, because nobody thinks Neves or Vitinha are available at all. That means Rodri, Enzo Fernandez, and Alexis Mac Allister in the Premier League become the top targets Real Madrid could realistically get in midfield.
It's a shame for the Madridistas who did get their hopes up for Vitinha and Neves with Jorge Mendes and Real Madrid now on good terms after facilitating the Jose Mourinho move. Maybe Mendes will help get a big name to Madrid this summer for his client Jose, but it won't be either of these brilliant Portuguese internationals from the midfield of the Ligue 1 giants.
