During the summers when there is an international tournament, one of the biggest fears for a club and for fans is one of their players picking up and injury and that injury having a major impact on the upcoming season. We saw Jude Bellingham return from Euro 2024 still carrying his shoulder injury and it led to a drop off from the midfielder in the 24/25 season. And for Real Madrid they feared the worst when Thibaut Courtois went off injured against Spain last week, but thankfully the club has gotten the news that they were hoping for with the 26/27 season quickly approaching.

As being reported by theMadridZone on X, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois does not have a serious injury and will be ready for the season opener in August. Courtois returned to Madrid following Belgium's World Cup elimination to undergo tests on his groin and those test thankfully revealed no serious damage following his injury substitution against Spain.

A sigh of relief for Real Madrid and Thibaut Courtois

It's safe to say when Thibaut Courtois went down injured in Belgium's World Cup quarterfinal all Real Madrid fans held their breath thinking "no not again". The club and fans surely got flashbacks of Courtois getting injured before the start of the 23/24 season and while it didn't look like as serious of an injury this time around, an injured Courtois in any capacity is still enough to derail Real Madrid's 26/27 season before it even gets started. But thankfully for Los Blancos that is not the case and fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

While yes, Courtois is injured, it is not a serious injury as first feared and the club expects this injury will not even affect his pre-season, with the Belgian set to return from his post World Cup vacation by the end of July, recovered and well rested, ready for the season opener against Real Sociedad in August.

This injury news is exactly what the club and fans were hoping for, however there is still a downside, and that is the fact that Courtois is hurt again, and the frequency of his injuries has been picking up recently. The goalkeeper dealt with a muscle injury in his right leg that kept him out towards the end of the season, and at 34-years-old, Courtois isn't getting any younger, and it would be in the clubs best interest to keep a close eye on his injuries this season.

Recent reports are suggesting Courtois is close to extending his contract at the Bernabeu, so he won't be going anywhere anytime soon, but even then, the club should keep their eyes on the goalkeeper market the next couple years, and prepare for the day when the Belgian's time at the club ultimately comes to an end.
