Real Madrid have a number of major matchups on the horizon in the coming weeks but the team are still dealing with a number of injuries to key players in the squad. If Arbeloa and his men have any chance of walking away with positive results in the matchups they better hope for good injury updates, and thankfully, that good news has come just in time.
As being reported by ESPN's Rodra on X, Eder Militao has been cleared by the medical staff to make his return to the team, just in time for Real's Champions League quarter-final clash with Bayern Munich next week. He also provided an update on Ferland Mendy, who could be back within the next 10-14 days, meaning he could be fit to play in the second leg should he be called on by Arbeloa.
Real Madrid get major injury boost ahead of Bayern Munich clash
Militao has been sidelined since all the way back on December 7th after suffering a serious hamstring injury during Real's 2-1 loss to Celta Vigo and has been working tirelessly to get back to fitness, and following more time off during this recent international break, the Brazilian is finally ready to make his return to the team.
His absence has had a major impact on the backline, as prior to his injury, the Brazilian was playing some of his best football and was close to reclaiming his crown of best defender in the world and then the injury bug struck. The backline has looked shaky while he's been sidelined with the manager struggling to find the best center-back partnership while he's out. But now that he's back just in time for the Bayern games, we can expect Arbeloa to deploy a Militao-Huijsen partnership, the same as we saw prior to the Brazilian going down injured.
As for Mendy, the Frenchman came off injured at halftime during the second leg against Manchester City back on March 17th at first for what seemed like a precaution, but as it turns out he came down with a hamstring injury and has been recovering ever since. Mendy made two appearances before his injury playing the full 90 against Celta Vigo and the first leg against Manchester City and he looked like the top class Ferland Mendy we saw during the 23/24 season. He is not expected to be ready in time for the first leg next week, but he could be ready for the second leg in Munich, which could prove to be major for Los Blancos.
Real aremajor underdogs heading into the clashes with Bayern Munich, but with these big time injury boosts, Arbeloa and his men may be able to put up a better fight than first expected and could pull off the unlikely upset.
