Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has found his new obsession in Michael Olise, the Bayern Munich right winger who became a Ballon d'Or candidate this season after upping his play to yet another level for a third season running.
The former Crystal Palace star forms the best attacking trident in world football alongside Harry Kane and Luis Diaz, but Perez is reportedly hoping to poach the Frenchman to form the world's best attacking triumvirate of his own alongside Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior - his two previous transfer obsessions.
Perez declared publicly he would be bidding 150 million euros for a true Galactico on the level of Cristiano Ronaldo or Zinedine Zidane, and whlie he denied the identity of the player being the Frenchman, journalists have read behind the tea leaves and deduced that Papa Perez will go for Olise first before turning to Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as an alternative.
Michael Olise is going to be even more costly
Well, he is going to have to pay more than 150 million euros if it is Michael Olise he wants from Bayern Munich this summer transfer window. Bayern already made it clear that they would not sell Olise for 200 million euros when the rumors first bubbled a couple of months ago, and Die Roten have doubled down on not wanting to sell Olise.
Now, Sky Sports Germany reports, via Madrid Xtra, that even if Real Madrid were to offer a flat 200 millino euros in exchange for the Bayern Munich forward, Die Roten would roundly reject that offer. The Bundesliga powerhouse will only even consider transfer offers from Madrid exceeding 200 million euros.
That is exactly what any Real Madrid executive should have thought going into this potential deal, and it is the news they were afraid to hear. Real Madrid have money, but they do not have enough money to be spending more than 200 million euros on players, basically valuing Olise higher than Neymar when looking at the timing of their deals and how much players are going for now vs. then.
Nobody thinks Olise is as skilled or athletic as Neymar, but he is a heck of a footballer and athlete, too. He is also coming with less injury baggage and higher goal scoring and assist numbers, so for Real Madrid, getting that sweet left foot even for an insane fee may be worth it. But seeing how Real Madrid paid half that for Gareth Bale, Jude Bellingham, and Cristiano Ronaldo as previous Galacticos, it is still a hard sell.
