In a season when it seems Real Madrid are constantly receiving bad injury news, Los Blancos have finally been blessed with a positive update on one of the most important players in the backline. As reported by AS (via Madrid Universal on X), Eder Militao is progressing well and is expected to be back in the squad by April after his hamstring injury has kept him out since December.
Having recently benefitted from Antonio Rudiger's return from injury as well, getting the Brazilian back fully recovered sooner rather than expected is exactly what Real Madrid needed. They head into the crucial months of the season, where trophies are truly won or lost.
Real Madrid handed huge update on Eder Militao's expected return
The 28-year-old has been sidelined since December 7th after suffering a serious hamstring injury against Celta Vigo, and his absence has been felt in the backline. Militao is often the glue that holds the defence together, and while Raul Asencio has done a solid job filling in for the injured Brazilian, no one can truly fill his boots.
Prior to his injury, the Brazilian was without a doubt the best defender in the squad, impressing on a number of occasions. He even bagged La Liga's September Goal of the Month with a stunning golazo against Espanyol.
Militao's South American intensity, pace, and fearlessness in making tackles have been sorely missed. With Dean Huijsen's form up and down recently, and both Asencio and Rudiger struggling with recurring injuries, his return will be welcomed with open arms by everyone at the club.
The 28-year-old has started training with the ball again this week, increasing the club's optimism that the Brazilian will be back closer to the end of March rather than the first expected mid-April. However, even with this progress, the club are still going to be extremely cautious with the defender and it is clear that he won't play until he is 100% recovered to avoid the possibility of any relapse.
Unfortunately for Real , injuries have significanlty hampered their back across almost all positions, with the club still having yet to have a solid run of games with all four starters playing together, Once Militao is back fit, hopefully the club will finally be able to play arguably their ideal starting backline of Alvaro Carreras, Militao, Huijsen, and Trent Alexander-Arnold as the club pushes to secure the La Liga title and their record extending 16th Champions League title.
