It wouldn't be a typical season at Real Madrid if the squad wasn't riddled with injuries, most of them to key players in the squad, which has a major impact on performance and results, which come the end of the season could be crucial to the success achieved by the club.
So far this year we've seen the backline get torn apart by injuries, with only Raul Asencio and Alvaro Carreras managing to stay injury free (knock on wood). Injuries to players like Eder Militao, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Dani Carvajal are the ones most felt in the defense.
Both Militao and Alexander-Arnold are sidelined with hamstring injuries and Dani Carvajal is out after a knee operation, with all of them expected to be out for a number of months, leaving Xabi Alonso's backline barron and vulnerable.
Adding these injuries on top of the recent poor form of Los Blancos and been some pretty dark times for fans these last few months. However, thankfully Madrid have finally gotten some good news during their injury crisis and it could be the catalyst for the turnaround the club needs.
Real Madrid handed major double injury boost at the perfect time
As pointed out by The Madrid Zone on X both of Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold have returned to training after the winter break, stepping up their road to recovery with both aiming to be back in the squad sooner rather than later. Whether either of them will be back in the squad for the upcoming Spanish Super Cup clash against Atletico remains to be seen, but one can only hope.
While it's not confirmed yet when either of them will be back in the squad yet, this injury boost is exactly what the team needs right now. The team clearly needs some sort of moral boost to help get out of the funk that they're in, and while yes Kylian Mbappe is the latest to go down with an injury, getting two players back from injury can bring the positive vibes that the squad needs to get back to their best.
Alexander-Arnold's return in particular is the one most needed by the team. His creativity has been painfully missed and once he returns could be the spark that gets the attacking line back to their best.
With the imminent returns of Carvajal and Alexander-Arnold, Alonso will no longer have to rely on Fede Valverde or Raul Asencio to cover at right-back, allowing them to get back to playing in their natural positions, which could help the team find the consistency and quality once again.
