Real Madrid have been drawing up a shopping list of potential midfield targets ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window. Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is one of the favorites among a number of figures at the club, however given his position in the Liverpool team, any more for the midfielder seems off the table, or is it?

Via Fabrizio Romano on X, according to journalist Ismael Mahmoud, Alexis Mac Allister's father Carlos has given Real Madrid a major boost in a potential move for the midfielder, saying he has yet to negotiate a new contract with the Premier League side:

"There are currently no negotiations with Liverpool to renew the contract"

Mac Allister to Madrid?

Ever since his retierment following the 23/24 season, Real Madrid have been desperetly searching for their perfect Toni Kroos replacement. The club has a number of names on their list, but Alexis Mac Allister is one that has long been linked with a move to the Bernabeu, as many view him as the perfect replacement for the German.

The Argentine has a wide passing range, is good on the ball under pressure, and controls the tempo like a master, exactly what Real Madrid have been looking for for the last two years. Pairing the 2022 World Cup winner with Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham could bring back the midfield balance the club has been lacking since the dissolving of the Kroos-Casemiro-Modric midfield.

The 28-year-old is under contract until 2028 but as mentioned earlier, he has yet to start talks over a new deal and that is exactly where Real Madrid could swoop in. Via Transfermarkt Mac Allister is currently valued at €80 million which would be a pretty penny for any team hoping to sign the midfielder should he look to leave Liverpool following their disastrous Premier League title defense. Waiting until he's available on a free transfer is too risky, so Real will have to open the check book should they hope to sign Mac Allister either this summer or next.

Whether or not Real will end up signing the Argentine remains unknown at this point. Mac Allister is one of many names on their transfer list, with more getting added seemingly every week. Signing the right midfielder is a move that could define the next decade plus for Real Madrid, so the club must do all their dudillegence to ensure they don't make a mistake they'll regret for years to come.
