Real Madrid's backline has been leaking in goals for fun over the last two years and the club has had enought of that and have put priority on reinforcing their backline this summer. The club has reporteldy already agreed deals for Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries and they aren't done their. Los Blancos have strongly been considering a move for Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol and have just been handed a major boost on their path to securing his signature.

As being reported by Plettigoal on X, Manchester City center-back Josko Gvardiol will decide between two options, either extending at Manchester City or moving to Real Madrid as Bayern Munich are now out of the race for the defender, handing Real a major boost in their pursuit of the Croatian star, pretty much putting Los Blancos in pole position to land him this summer.

Now is decision time for Josko Gvardiol

Plettigoal goes on to mention that while there is a big appreciation for Gvardiol at Bayern they view his as too expensive and don't believe they need to reinforce at center-back hence why they dropped out of the race, which is exactly the news Real Madrid wants to hear. Real has already gotten the ball rolling on their defensive rebuild rolling and now their pursuit of Gvardiol just got a little bit easier, although it will still be tough.

Jose Mourinho has reportedly told the club he wants to sign a center-back who can also play at left-back and that's what Gvardiol has been doing since he arrived at Manchester City in 2023. Add on top of that his physical playing style, aggressive tackling, proficiency on the ball, and the fact that he is somehow still only 24-years-old and he has all the makings of the next great Real Madrid center-back.

However as mentioned earlier even with Bayern now out of the picture, landing Gvardiol still isn't a straightforward game. He's under contract at Manchester City until 2028 and City have just offered him a new deal till 2031, with an improved salary, which he could find hard to turn down even if Real come calling. Adding on top of that is near €90 million valuation, and a move for while sounding good on paper, looks much harder in reality.

At the end of the day Real Madrid will surely bring in another central defender but who exactly remains unknown. Gvardiol seems to be the number one target at the moment but should no progress be made on a deal, the club will unfortunately have to turn their attention to other targets on the market.
