Over the last few years we've seen Real Madrid loan out a number of their promising young players to give them time to develop as a player before returning to the club when the time is right. We've seen it with players like Brahim Diaz and it's the plan we're currently seeing with Endrick and Nico Paz, with both players expected to return in the summer. The loan out and return plan has been successful in the past and it seems we could be about to see it again with one of Real's youngsters who hasn't quite lived up to expectations.

As being reported by MadridXtra on X, Real Madrid are seriously considering letting Franco Mastantuono leave on loan in the summer, similar to what we saw with Endrick in January. No one at the club doubts the Argentine's talent but the idea is growing that he needs an intermediate step to develop as a player and get the regular gametime he isn't getting at Los Blancos.

Real Madrid to follow the Endrick plan with Mastantuono

The 18-year-old arrived at the Bernabeu this past summer from River Plate for a fee that can reach €60 million following a breakout performance at the FIFA Club World Cup, arriving with high expectations on his shoulders, but unfortunately for the player, meeting those expectations has proved to be a tough task. The attacker has struggled to make an impact when given the chance to player and has slowly fallen down the pecking order as the season has gone on.

Mastantuono has only scored three goals across 27 appearances this season and has seen his gametime fall week by week, leading many to question what's next for the Argentine? There's no denying he's got loads of talent, we saw that at River Plate but it needs to be unlocked and that's not going to happen if he's just sitting on the bench, hence the prospect of a loan move is becoming more popular as the days go by.

We've seen the success Real Madrid players have been having on loan in the recent years. Brahim won the Scudetto with AC Milan on 21/22, Endrick is killing it at Lyon, and Nico Paz has arguably been the best player in Serie A this season while playing for Como. Who's to say the same won't happen with Mastantuono should he go out on loan to a place like France or Germany to get the chance to play his free flowing attacking football as a consistent starting player.

The report goes on to say that in the end the decision will be down to the player himself whether he wants to stay and fight for his place or if he wants to leave on loan. Given the amount of attacking talent already at Los Blancos and with the prospect of Endrick and Nico Paz returning in the summer, it would be in Mastantuono's best interest to follow the Endrick plan and play elsewhere on loan next season, develop and grow into a stronger player, before returning to the Bernabeu when the time is right.
