Real Madrid have set the world record for the biggest attendance for a youth match after Real Madrid won the U20 Intercontinental Cup on Saturday.
A whopping 52,117 fans attended the match between Real Madrid’s Juvenil A team against Santiago Wanderers’ U20 team, in a contest that ended 3-1 in the favor of the home side.
Real Madrid’s Juvenil A team also became the first team in Spanish youth football history to win the Intercontinental Cup, the UEFA Youth League, the Cup de Campeones, and the league title in the same year.
It is an extraordinary feet achieved by some of Real Madrid’s best young talents, and it goes to show just how good the upcoming crop of talent is going to be.
There will be a feeling at the club that many of these players will get the call-up to Castilla in some time – while some are already there – which could also help with keeping the harmony intact for these young gentlemen.
Real Madrid should let people watch more Castilla games from the stadium
Real Madrid’s 52,000 attendance for a youth cup game shows that there is a lot of interest in this young generation’s development in football. For many, it would have been the first and maybe only chance of getting to the Bernabeu and watching a match, while others would also be genuinely interested in such a talented team.
Seeing how the club opened the doors for a game at the Bernabeu to the youth team also shows that for many people, looking at these players is a good experience.
That is also why, at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium, Real Madrid should open up all stands for people who want to watch Castilla regularly.
For many, it is not affordable to consistently go to the Bernabeu and afford a ticket to watch the first team play. For them, it may not be accessible, either.
However, for fans who have a genuine interest in following youth football for the club – opening a few sections of the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium for Castilla games is good to not only get revenue, but also to get genuine fan involvement and participation to help the team.
As this match has shown, an interest is clear. Even if they are not able to sell out every single time, Castilla would still invite a bigger audience than whatever is currently allowed to step foot into the door.
At the moment, it is limited to some members, journalists and families of players, while in reality, it should be open for the general public as well.
