Real Madrid are a club that tends to like to plan for the future as much as possible when they can. Once the signs start to show that father time is starting to catch up to the veteran players, the club looks to bring in players to replace them, as we've seen in recent years with players like Trent Alexander-Arnold coming in for Dani Carvajal. There aren't many vets left in the current team, with Thibaut Courtois being the oldest, and although he is still at his best, the club are still already planning for life once his time is up, and they have their eyes on an unlikely Premier League goalkeeper.
As being reported by theMadridZone on X, current Brighton starting keeper Bart Verbruggen is the favorite to succeed Thibaut Courtois when his time at the Bernabeu finally comes to an end. The Dutch keeper's contract expires in the summer of 2028, with Real Madrid planning to make a move next summer as they smartly plan ahead for the future.
Real Madrid planning ahead for life after Courtois
Courtois has been crucial to Real's achievements since his arrival in 2018 and has comfortably been one of if not the best player for Real Madrid over the last two seasons, being pretty much the only consistent player during two incredibly inconsistent seasons. He has carried on the legendary goalkeeping legacy left before him by Iker Casillas and Keylor Navas, performing at a level that cements him as easily the best goalkeeper in the world right now.
However despite Courtois still playing at his best level he isn't getting any younger and that's something Real Madrid is very cognizant of. He's still only 33-years-old which is still young for goalkeepers but eventually the time will come when it's sadly time to move on from the Belgian and even if that time isn't for another five or ten years, Real Madrid still want to be ready for any scenario, hence why they are keeping a close eye on the goalkeeper market.
While Bart Verbruggen may not be the biggest name keeper in the world he has still proven to be a top class goalkeeper. He has been one of the most underrated keepers in the Premier League during his time at Brighton and his play in recent years has earned him a well deserved move to a top club. Verbruggen is only 23-years-old and is the starting keeper for the Dutch national team, showing that at his age he is ready for the big responsibilities that come with being the starting keeper for such a footballing heritage country.
Real Madrid will have to act quickly though if they hope to land Verbruggen as other clubs like Bayern and PSG also hold an interest in the keeper, with Bayern possibly considering making a move this summer, and Brighton wanting his future to be decided sooner rather than later. He's currently valued at around €40 million, but if he has a solid World Cup and a solid season should he stay at Brighton, that price tag will no doubt rise by the time Los Blancos look to sign him next summer.
