For many if not all Real Madrid fans, this weekend's season finale against Athletic Club comes as a huge sigh of relief. It goes without saying that this season has been an unmitigated disaster for Real Madrid both on and off the pitch, with many giving their thanks that after this weekend it will finally all be over. That being said there has been new injury updates within the squad, with two stars set to miss the finale and one set to return after a two week absence.
As being reported by theMadridZone on X, both Aurelien Tchouameni and Vinicius Jr are set to miss the clash with Athletic Club, with captain Fede Valverde set to return to the lineup, potentially starting, following his absence after the training ground fight with Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid injury update ahead of much needed season finale
This season has been summed up by injuries so it's not much of a surprise that injuries also take the headlines ahead of the final match of the season. The reason for Tchouameni's absence is unknown at the moment, as for Vinicius it's reported that he is back in Brazil with Real Madrid's permission for personal reasons and if possible for him he will be back in time for Carvajal's farwell on Saturday however odds are he won't feature in the match, just be there to support his departing teammate.
As for Valverde the Uruguayan returns after a two week absence following his training ground fight with Aurelien Tchouameni where he reportedly suffered a concussion as well as a cut to his head that required stitches to fix. It will be important to see how Valverde's fitness is following his absence and if he has any lingering effects as we are just weeks away from the start of the FIFA World Cup, where Valverde is a key figure and the captain for his country and will want to be at 100% for the tournament.
With Barcelona having won La Liga a few weeks ago Real Madrid have nothing to play for other than pride and will hopefully try their best, which is a big ask, to send the home fans home happy after a disaster of a season on multiple fronts.
Los Blancos took home a 3-0 win against Athletic Club back in December, and with Athletic currently sitting in 12th in La Liga, this should hopefully be a soild performance and three points for Real Madrid, but as we've seen all season, with this team, nothing is guaranteed no matter how easy it may look on paper.
