For Real Madrid, they have made one of their priorities in the summer to sign Vinicius Jr to a new contract extension. His current deal expires next summer and despite a rocky last few seasons, the club still views the Brazilian as a cornerstone piece of the clubs future and won't want to lose him anytime soon. Negotiations on a new deal have been ongoing since last summer but have hardly made any progress and this latest update explains exactly why.

As being reported by Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr have hit a major stumbling block in contract negotiations, with the Brazilian demanding an exuberant €30 million per season on a new deal and is refusing to move from that number, demanding to be the highest paid player in the squad, and it is starting to become a distraction within the team.

Vinicius Jr proving he's the biggest distraction at Real Madrid

Vinicius has been a loyal servant to Real Madrid since his arrival at the club in the summer of 2018. The Brazilian went from being the laughing stock of the squad to being the superstar in the team in just a matter of years. His run from the 2021/22 season through the 23/24 season cemented him as a legend of Real Madrid to many, however starting last season but especially this season, the Brazilian has become a major distraction at the team which has had a visible impact on the team.

His antics have always been a major criticism but this season they seem to have been amplified ten fold. His temper tantrum towards Xabi Alonso following his substituion in El Clasico back in October has been the defining moment of the season, and was the moment the season fell apart and it's not an exageration to say it's all Vini's fault.

Vinicius has been acting like football is an individual sport rather than a team sport this season and his behavior towards Xabi Alonso isn't the only example. The Brazilian was upset at Gonzalo Garcia for not passing the ball in the match against Real Betis back in January despite Gonzalo going on to score a hat-trick, he was seen telling Jude Bellingham to shut up when he was told to pass the ball in the second leg against Bayern Munich, and now these contract demands where he is focusing more on helping himself rather helping the team be able to invest elsewhere.

Real's current offer to the Brazilian is for €20 million per season but he is demanding €30 million to be closer to Kylian Mbappe in salary with Vinicius clearly still believing he is the best and most important player in the team which isn't true anymore. Not even Cristiano Ronaldo made these kinds of demands from Real Madrid and he is the greatest player in the clubs history and is the dictionary definition of ego, so the fact that we are now talking about Vinicius having a bigger ego than Cristiano Ronaldo is a major red flag for the Brazilian and could start to shift fans' opinions, if they haven't already changed.
