Real Madrid are expecting a number of veteran players to depart the club in the summer, mostly in the defense, and are already drawing up a list of replacements as they build their squad for the next generation of Los Blancos. The club are eyeing some of the best defenders in the world as their top targets, but they also have their eyes on a Manchester United fullback that might raise some eyebrows.
As being reported by Football365, Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot as a replacement for Dani Carvajal, with the veteran expected to depart the club in the summer once his contract expires.
A headscratching potential Dalot move
Trent Alexander-Arnold is the undisputed starting right-back, and at 34-years-old we are finally seeing father time catching up with Dani Carvajal and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it seems that his legendary time at the Bernabeu is coming to an end. The captain has been a loyal servant to the club for over a decade and will be hard to replace, but nonetheless the club will have to try their best to find a suitable replacement.
Once the Spaniard leaves, Alexander-Arnold will be the only right-back in the first team squad, meaning the club will have to start looking at right-backs in the transfer market and have identified the Manchester United defender as a favorable option. United are also expected to have a major squad overhaul in the summer, with Dalot being one of the players the Premier League club could sell to raise funds and clear room for other transfers.
The Portuguese brings a different style of fullback play compared to Alexander-Arnold. Dalot is a more defensive minded fullback, who can also add to the offensive side, whereas the Englishman is a heavily attacking minded fullback which would be a good balance to have in that position as each player would be able to contribute to the team differently in different scenarios.
The 26-year-old is under contract until 2028, and according to Transfermarkt is valued at around €30 million, which is a fair price that Real could easily afford in the summer, along with their other defensive targets. The club has placed priority on signing a central defender first, but once they secure their signing, Dalot could be next in line for a move to the Spanish capital in the summer.
