When it comes to Real Madrid's transfer activity this summer, much of the talk has been surrounding the midfield and whether or not the club will splash the cash on a marquee midfield signing. The club has been linked with a number of the worlds best midfielders as Jose Mourinho looks to revamp his squad for the 26/27 season, and despite all the top class names the club has been linked with, the have reportedly made contact with one players entourage that may leave fans scratching their heads.
As being reported by journalist Sacha Tavolieri on X, a Real Madrid representative has made contact with the entourage of midfielder Marcelo Brozovic to gauge the midfielders interest in a potential move to the Bernabeu. The Croatian is a free agent after leaving Al Nassr at the conclusion of the season, with new manager Jose Mourinho said to be a fan of Brozovic and would like him as part of his squad.
Is Brozovic really what Real Madrid need?
It's safe to say no one saw this one coming. Real Madrid has been linked with some of the biggest midfield names this summer like Enzo Fernandez and they could end up with Marcelo Brozovic? That would definitely be quite the plot twist this transfer window. If he were to join it would only be on a one-year deal and given he's 33-years-old in theory it may not be as bad of a deal as it may sound.
Fans have been crying out for the club to add veteran experience to this young squad and to bring in someone like Brozovic who is 33-years-old, has big match experience, and is an experienced winner could prove to be beneficial for Real Madrid. Brozovic was an under the radar player for Inter Milan winning one Serie A and two Coppa Italia titles, as well as being a Champions League runner up in 2023. The Croatian recently won the Saudi Pro League with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr and was a key player for Croatia in their 2018 World Cup runner-up and 2022 third place finishes.
At his age Brozovic obviously isn't expected to be a long-term fix but to add a veteran on a one-year deal on reasonable money wouldn't be the worst move imaginable. The club has already added Bernardo Silva for midfield experience this summer, so adding another experienced vet could be exactly what Jose Mourinho needs in his new look squad.
Real Madrid has already confirmed the arrivals of Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, and Denzel Dumfries and with rumors swirling that Florentino Perez isn't done with signings yet, don't be surprised if the Croatian ends up at the Bernabeu, in a transfer that no one saw coming at the start of the summer.
