After getting revenge on Atletico Madrid for their 5-2 loss earlier this season with a narrow 2-1 win, Real Madrid advance to the Spanish Supercup final, setting up a highly anticipated matchup with Barcelona for the fifth straight year.
Hansi Flick's men will no doubt be out for revenge after Madrid walked away with a 2-1 win in the first El Clasico of the season back in October. Barca have been in hot form since the defeat against Los Blancos, slipping up for a bit but finally regaining it at just the right time, making this truly anyone's game on Sunday.
Barca looked dominant in their Supercup semi-final, hammering Athletic Club 5-0, whereas, despite some dominant moments, Madrid looked second best to Atletico. Given the size of the matchup and the prospect of winning a trophy, Xabi Alonso's side has made the bold decision to fly in a not 100% Kylian Mbappe for the final, but will he be fit enough to start?
Kylian Mbappe arrives in Saudi Arabia to train with the team, but will he start?
As being reported by COPE, Kylian Mbappe completed one final training session in Madrid before traveling to Jeddah for the Spanish Supercup final. The Frenchman will arrive tonight and will train with the rest of the team tomorrow, before the final on Sunday.
However, whether he will start in the final remains up in the air and will be decided after tomorrow's final training session: whether it's worth the risk to start him against Barca, or if he should be brought on as a substitute if needed.
Mbappe was expected to be out for several weeks with his knee injury, but with the prospect of winning the first of hopefully many trophies this season, the club has decided to call in the big guns and bring the Frenchman to Saudi Arabia.
While starting Mbappe would no doubt be a huge risk, even if he's not at full fitness, his presence on the pitch can't be replaced. He was crucial in Madrid's El Clasico victory back in October and could well prove to be the difference maker in the Spanish Supercup final should his name be called.
