Real Madrid legend names Arda Guler over Cristiano Ronaldo

A Real Madrid legend has shown his immense support for countryman Arda Guler, despite being asked the question "Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?"

Real Madrid have one of the best young players in the world in Arda Guler. the Turkish wonderkid was signed in 2023 and broke through last season with great performances from the bench.

In his home country, he is held in high regard. This was admittedly helped by his incredible EURO 2024 showing, where he scored one of the best goals ever scored by Turkey in the tournament's history.

However, this season, Arda Guler has struggled for game-time. Real Madrid are by no means in panic stations about this, as they believe his time will come just like it did last campaign.

Real Madrid legend names Arda Guler over Cristiano Ronaldo

Speaking to a room of press, Real Madrid legend Mesut Ozil heaped a huge amount of praise on Arda Guler. He was asked the question "[Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo?" To which, Mesut Ozil quickly responded with "Arda Guler."

Mesut Ozil's response to the question was understandably met with great applause. He is a very likeable character who isn't shy to make his footballing opinions known.

In many ways, Arda Guler could be the second-coming to Mesut Ozil. Both players have Turkish heritage (despite Ozil being born in and playing for Germany) and are/were known for their incredible technical ability.

Mesut Ozil retired from professional football in 2023. He retired in Istanbul but spent some time playing alongside Arda Guler for Fenerbahce. It is no wonder they get along so well and it's no wonder why Guler is now blessed with a magical touch.

Mesut Ozil is remembered fondly by Real Madrid fans. He is one of the best technical players to ever play for the club and he is still the king of assists. He had a great relationship with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, before being sold to Arsenal.

As the season progresses, there should be more opportunities for Arda Guler to prove himself to Real Madrid and to Carlo Ancelotti. At this stage, the Italian coach is not entirely convinced enough to start Arda Guler. However, cup competition and European cameos could sway him.
