However, such is the nature of football, all good things must come to an end. Carlo Ancelotti is not naive, so he knows that he must step down from management at some point.

As a club who is always thinking two steps ahead, Real Madrid has a future-proof plan for Carlo Ancelotti's retirement. His replacement is now available next summer.

According to a report from Florian Plettenberg, Real Madrid are considering the option of hiring their club legend Xabi Alonso. Only under contract at Bayer Leverkusen until 2026, the Bundesliga champions are already seeking his replacement.

Plettenberg confirms that Liverpool are not currently in the race. They are happy with Arne Slot, so they will not bring Alonso back to Merseyside. However, Man City might compete with Real Madrid.

Man City have joined the race, amid the potential that Pep Guardiola leaves the club next summer. Of course, like Real Madrid, City is a club with aspirations of the best.

In his own words, Plettenberg said: "Bayer Leverkusen are preparing for Xabi Alonso’s departure next summer. Alonso is a candidate at Real Madrid and Manchester City, with [City] showing concrete interest and preparing for the possibility that Pep Guardiola leaves next summer, as per ‘The Athletic’. [Liverpool] out of the race at this point, as they are very happy with Arne Slot.

That said, Real Madrid fans might take great confidence in Xabi Alonso having no connection to Man City. He has never played there, unlike Real Madrid where he is a club legend.

In fact, if Xabi Alonso harbours hopes to manage Liverpool in the future, he might tarnish his chances by choosing Man City over Real Madrid. So, this could work in favour of Los Blancos.
