Over the last few seasons, Real Madrid has seen several veteran players depart the club for the next chapter of their careers. Players who were key members of the 2010s era have slowly been making way for the newer, younger generation of players who will lead Real Madrid to even more success in the future seasons to come.

Players like Marcelo, Karim Benzema, and Toni Kroos just to name a few have all departed the club whether it be retiring or leaving for another club which has paved the way for the new generation to make their mark.

However, a few players of the old generation have managed to stick around with the younger players and still make an impact on the team. One of those players is Luka Modric. The Croatian seems to be ageing like fine wine proving he can still be an influential player at his age.

Real Madrid legend wants to extend his contract after stellar season

As reported by Marca, Luka Modric wants to renew his contract and play at the 2026 World Cup as a Real Madrid player. This extension would make the 2025/26 season Modric's 14th season at the club making him one of the longest-tenured players in Real Madrid's history.

At 39 years old, Modric is by far the oldest player in the squad, but by his play this season, you would guess he was only 29. Although he is not a starter anymore as he was in his best days, Modric still plays a key role off the bench almost every week and makes his presence known to opponents.

At this stage of his career, Modric only wants to stay at Real Madrid, the money is not important to him hence why unlike some older players the Croatian is not interested in a move to Saudi Arabia. As the club typically does Real Madrid will deal with the renewals at the end of the season, but seeing Luka Modric back in a Real Madrid kit next season would not be much of a surprise to anyone.
