Real Madrid are looking to majorly overhaul their squad this summer and have made the right call to start with patching up the defense. The backline has been leaking in goals for fun the last two seasons which has been a major reason behind Real's disappointments so new manager Jose Mourinho has taken it upon himself to reshape the backline to bring in more defensive stability. The club has already agreed deals for two new defenders, and to the delight of fans have reportedly take a major step forward in their pursuit of one of the best defenders in Europe.

As being reported by MadridXtra on X, Real Madrid has made direct contact with the agent of Borussia Dortmund center-back Nico Schlotterbeck as the club looks to progress towards securing a deal for the player. Jose Mourinho is said to be a big fan of the player, with the manager pushing to get the deal done quickly before another team gets the chance to steal the defender away.

Opertation Schlotterbeck is now on at Real Madrid

After reportedly already agreeing deals to bring in Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konate and Inter Milan fullback Denzel Dumfries Real Madrid aren't done yet as they take the next major step in landing one of Europe's most highly coveted center-backs. Schlotterbeck has been linked with a number of European giants like Bayern Munich and Liverpool, which may be worrying to Los Blancos, hence their eagerness to take the next step to progress a deal.

The German international was one of, if not the best defender in the Bundesliga last season so it makes sense as to why so many teams are jumping to sign him, but Real Madrid makes the most sense. Schlotterbeck brings almost every attribute to the table that it takes to be the next top center-back at Real Madrid, he's tall, quick, physical, good with the ball at his feet, and brings an intensity to the backline, Real Madrid has been somewhat lacking since the departure of Sergio Ramos.

Sschlotterbeck is exactly the kind of player Real Madrid must sign this summer if they hope to patch up their leaky backline so from the cub's perspective they need to get this deal done at all costs. Dormund would reportedly accept a fee of around €60 million, which in todays transfer market would be a steal of a deal for a player that could secure the backline for the next decade.

Bringing in Schlotterbeck would be a statement signing from Real Madrid, and with a new look defense with the likes of Konate, Schlotterbeck, and Dumfries, Jose Mourinho and Florentino Perez are looking to make the statement that Real Madrid is back after the last two disastrous seasons.
