Real Madrid's most improved player under Xabi Alonso isn't Arda Guler

He's probably second.

Arda Guler has simply been exceptional for Real Madrid under Xabi Alonso.

Until the Copa Del Rey final this season, Guler was nowhere to be found in the starting XI. He used to warm the bench for Carlo Ancelotti, and now, suddenly, he is a superstar story waiting to happen.

Guler has become Real Madrid's centrepiece in build-up. His passing range is exceptional and it absolutely shows when you watch Alonso's Madrid play.

He has certainly been one of Real Madrid's most improved players under Alonso.

However, there is one more who takes the cake. And he is a surprise pick.

There have been a number of picks that you could use for this award so far, but it is basically between three: Gonzalo Garcia, Guler, and Fran Garcia.

Surprisingly, I think Fran takes the cake here.

Guler is exceptional, but there is an argument for someone else as well

For Guler, we all knew the talent was there, and towards the end of Ancelotti's reign, we started seeing glimpses of what he could provide. However, we knew there was a world-beater in him.

Similarly with Gonzalo Garcia, we don't know whether he has improved this much under Alonso, or if he was simply always this good for Castilla too. He scored 25 goals and played a crucial part in the season for Raul, so I think that in that sense, it has less to do with improvement under Alonso.

With Fran, though, we are seeing a completely different player. Fran Garcia, even when he played for Ancelotti - and he did a fair bit - was a complete shell of the version he showed today, and the system is definitely helping him more than everyone thinks.

The confidence Fran Garcia has now is simply unlike anything we have seen from him at Real Madrid, and it is essentially the player that left Castilla to be crucial for Rayo Vallecano back in the day.

It is so good to see a functioning left-back again, and hopefully, with Alvaro Carreras likely to join as well, it will be good competition between the two.

Guler has been better than him performance wise overall, but I do think Garcia has had to improve more, which is why he takes the cake.
