Xabi Alonso might not be the only name to leave Real Madrid in January amid reports suggesting the club are prepared to sell one of his former players. Los Blancos are experiencing one of the worst periods in modern history, losing against Barcelona in the Supercopa de Espana final and Albacete in the Copa del Rey last 16.

Alvaro Arbeloa made several changes to the side that lost to Barca when they headed to the Segunda Division side on Wednesday. But his side were beaten by the minnows in one of the biggest shocks of the season.

Madrid's reaction to the defeat is that they have faith in Arbeloa and will stick with him to see out the season. But that might not be the case for a starter who is on Tottenham Hotspur's radar.

Real Madrid want €30m for Tottenham target

Andriy Lunin was handed just his third appearance of the season in the loss to Albacete as Arbeloa opted to rest Thibaut Courtois. The Ukrainian has struggled for game time amid playing backup to the unmovable Belgian goalkeeper.

Defensa Central reports that Lunin is on Tottenham's wishlist amid concerns over their number one Guglielmo Vicario. Los Blancos will sell the 26-year-old if they receive an offer of €30m (£26m).

Lunin has been with Madrid since the summer of 2018 and has been a fine backup to Courtois. He has made 65 appearances, keeping 22 clean sheets.

Florentino Perez had viewed the Ukraine international as a long-term heir to Courtois but it doesn't seem likely that the 33-year-old will be leaving anytime soon. Lunin has a contract with the club until 2030 but might be keen to become a number one at this stage of his career.

Madrid's Copa del Rey exit means Lunin's chances of appearing again before the end of the season are slim. Courtois is number one in both the Champions League and La Liga and these are the only competitions the team are still participating in.

Lunin has lost his place in Ukraine's national team ahead of the World Cup in which they have play-offs coming up in March. If he's going to make his way back into their team it seems vital he gets minutes.

But Madrid might be keen to keep hold of Lunin because of the risk of losing Courtois due to injury. Arbeloa will now be focused on catching Barcelona in the La Liga title race and chasing Champions League glory.
