Real Madrid's interest in prodigy Dean Huijsen is widely documented. Some of Europe's major teams have expressed interest in the player, including Los Blancos. He is now employed by Bournemouth and may seek a transfer in the upcoming summer window.
Huijsen, too, recently expressed how delighted and honored he felt to hear Madrid were interested in him.
Los Blancos are undoubtedly attracted by the Spanish center-back and intend to investigate his purchase in the near future. However, there is one point that the club's administration must address before going all in on the player.
Do Real Madrid need a center-back at all?
The current season has been a nightmare for Los Blancos in terms of defensive quandaries. With Eder Militao, Dani Carvajal, and David Alaba absent for various reasons, the team struggled to fill the gap. This time, as a blessing in disguise, academy phenom Raul Asencio emerged and carved out a spot for himself in the first team.
But, given the interest in Dean Huijsen, Madrid must consider if they really need to recruit a new center-back.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are definitely involved with Huijsen but the club is yet to decide whether they want to invest in the Spanish youngster or continue with the available roster.
Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, two quality players, will return next season. Trent Alexander-Arnold, too, is almost ready to take the next step in his career and clinch the much coveted move to Santiago Bernabeu. David Alaba, too, has gently but steadily rediscovered his groove again. And now Raul Asencio has been confirmed as a regular starter beginning next season. Not to mention Antonio Rudiger, who has been at his very best recently.
Given that these players do not suffer severe injuries next season, Real Madrid will already have four center-backs, all of whom are capable of starting every key game. With that in mind, is it appropriate, possible, and, most importantly, reasonable to choose Dean Huijsen?
Rather, it appears more prudent to wait a few years for veterans such as Alaba and Rudiger to exit or retire before making a move for Huijsen, who will be better judged at other teams and leagues if he leaves Bournemouth this season.
