Real Madrid's injury problems this season have arguably been worse than any of the previous seasons. The backline has been absolutely ravaged this season with every defender outside of three all picking up injuries, with every starting defender besides Alvaro Carreras being out injured.

Dani Carvajal, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ferland Mendy, David Alaba, Dean Huijsen, Eder Militao, and most recently, Antonio Rudiger have all been sidelined with injuries of varying recovery times, leaving Xabi Alonso with few options to choose from on any given matchday.

Arguably, the biggest injury in the backline is to Eder Militao. The center back went off injured early on in Real's 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo with what looks to be a serious hamstring injury, and this is a worrying sight for the club and for fans. The Brazilian has had season-ending ACL injuries in both of the last two seasons and was finally back to full match fitness before suffering another devastating injury.

The Brazilian has been Real's best defender this season and is now expected to be out for a number of months, which, given the current situation at the club, is a worst-case scenario for the team. However, recent reports suggest there could be a small glimmer of hope for both the player and the club regarding his injury.

Real Madrid's news involving Eder Militao is a pleasant surprise

According to journalist Marcos Benito while speaking on El Chiringuito, recent tests done on Eder Militao suggest that the tear in his hamstring is less severe than initially feared, and he could be back sooner than first expected.

Militao was originally expected to be out for around three to five months, but after recent tests, he could be back in around two months, offering a sense of optimism for all parties. While two months out is still a long time, it's still better than five months, and the news could offer a slight moral boost within the squad during these rocky times.

While Militao returning earlier than first expected would be a major boost for Los Blancos, it is still crucial that the club doesn't rush him back too soon and they allow him to 100% recovery to avoid any potential setback given his history of injuries over the last two years.

Real are now left with one fit senior team center-back, that being Raul Asencio, which leaves Xabi Alonso in a nearly impossible situation. He could always deploy Tchouameni at center-back or call on talented Castilla defender Joan Martinez.

Whether the Brazilian's injury will cause the club to go into the January window for a defender remains to be seen, but it would be in the club's best interest to at least available, like Sergio Ramos for example.
