Real Madrid have drawn up a long shopping list of midfielders ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window as the club continues their hunt for the perfect Toni Kroos replacement. The common names like Vitinha and Rodri are on the list, however, one Premier League midfielder has reportedly been offered to the club, and he is a player Los Blancos should strongly consider signing.
As reported by Diario AS, via MadridXtra on X, Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been offered to Real Madrid by his agent amid much speculation surrounding the Italian's fututre with the Premier League club. Tonali could be on the move if Newcastle fail to secure Champions League football, with the Bernabeu being a likely destination.
Tonali could be on the move to the Bernabeu
Despite signing a new contract with the Premier League side that runs untils 2031, Tonali has been linked with a move away from St James' Park in the summer following a disappointing season for Newcastle. Tonali has been linked with clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus, and even Real Madrid in the recent months and it seems the Madrid links just got even stronger as the summer transfer window gets closer and closer.
This season has been one plagued with inconsistency for Newcastle, which is frustrating for a player like Tonali, who has been consistent himself and hasn't been seeing his form rewarded with results. Newcastle currently sit 12th in the Premier League, and crashed out of the Champions League losing 8-2 on aggregate to Barcelona. A top level player like Tonali wants to be playing at the top level, meaning fighting for the Champions League and league title, a prospect looking slim at Newcastle. As a result the player and his agent are assessing his options this summer, with Real Madrid looking like a very likely option.
Real have long been searching for their Toni Kroos replacement, and Tonali, with hiss wide passing range, tempo controlling ability, and composure under pressure makes him almost a perfect option for the club to add to their midfield and bring back the stability they have long been searching for.
If Los Blancos hope to sign the midfielder, they'll have to be ready to put up a fight. As mentioned earlier top European clubs like Arsenal and Juventus are also showing strong interest in Tonali meaning it won't be a straight path to his signature. Adding on top of that his price tag, Newcastle signed him for €60 million in 2023, and could easily ask for a fee of well over €100 million to part ways with their cornerstone player.
