Real Madrid and Bayern Munich played out another instant classic, but, ultimately, Real came up short, losing 4-3 and blowing a chance to go extra time after an Eduardo Camaving red card and goals from star wingers Michael Olise and Luis Diaz. Here are the player ratings from their second leg loss in the Champions League quarterfinals.

GK Andriy Lunin, 3.0

This NPC FIFA glitch in goal literally dove into his own net with a Bayern Munich player standing right in front of the goal line on a corner kick, and he nearly gifted another goal on a corner later by flopping aimlessly in the air. Andriy Lunin made a few basic saves that the casuals will overrate, but his distribution was horrible and he cost the team in the end. Lunin is a great backup, but you are lying to yourself if you don't see how big of a drop off there is between Thibaut Courtois and him.

LB Ferland Mendy, 4.0

He honestly had a very poor game against Michael Olise and was only marginally better than Alvaro Carreras defensively. And as usual, he offers nothing going forward to support Vinicius Junior on the left. Here's your reminder of why Real chopped him out of the XI before.

CB Antonio Rudiger, 6.0

CB Eder Militao, 8.5

By far the best defender on the team. He did a brilliant job of marking Harry Kane and Luis Diaz, often covering both at the same time to make up for how bad the fullbacks were. Without Militao, Real Madrid are toast defensively. He is so, so good.

RB Trent Alexander-Arnold, 3.0

He has some beautiful passes, but, goodness, Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the worst off ball players on any top club. It's like he doesn't even think or doesn't even care to close people down or mark off the ball. The goal Harry Kane score was peak low football IQ from Trent, who saw Luis Diaz tucking in and taking Eder Militao, but instead of closing Kane down, he sat there like a bump on a log and let his compatriot score the easiest goal ever. On the ball, he only completed 70 percent of his passes and was way sloppier than people want to admit. A moment's player with very few moments.

CM Arda Guler, 7.5

Scored two brilliant goals out of nothing, but what stops his rating from reaching the 8.0 mark is the same issue Real Madrid fans need to be more honest about Arda Guler. He doesn't not control games or have the robustness to be a top midfielder from open play. He works hard, but he is second best in most challenges and can't offer the orchestrating or security on the ball that Real Madrid need from a playmaking midfielder. His technical quality is exquisite, but everything else remains a work in progress.

CM Fede Valverde, 4.5

He may as well have sat at home. Offered no defensive cover in the defensive midfield role, which, of course, is not a natural fit for him.

CM Jude Bellingham, 8.0

Drove the ball forward with gusto and saved a couple of goals with timely interventions. He was all over the pitch on both ends of the pitch and had to take care of a lot of the dirty work with how overrun Fede and Guler were from open play. Jude Bellingham has honestly become underappreciated.

LW Vinicius Junior, 5.0

Vinicius did brilliantly to set up Mbappe's goal and also hit the crossbar later in the match, but the Brazilian star continues to be far too sloppy to trust. He had some poor touches on the ball that looked like they were amateur hour, undoing the fact that he did work hard for the team.

RW Brahim Diaz, 6.0

Created a couple of chances for his teammates, but his overall quality and influence on the game was pretty minimal, which is to be expected. He's not the caliber of player for a stage like this, but he does at least try for his team.

CF Kylian Mbappe, 4.0

A disappointment and shown levels by the Bayern Munich front three. His movement off the ball continues to be a concern, he never defends or presses with his teammates, and if he does ever pass the ball, he releases it too late for his teammates to do anything with it. Mbappe doesn't understand the finer aspects of the game still at his age, and that is why he is so far off what Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo were in these big games. His goal was a credit to Vinicius Junior's work, not his own.
