Real Madrid are on a winless streak now. After falling to Mallorca 2-1 last weekend, Los Blancos fell by the same score line to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. And on Friday night in their return to La Liga at the same home venue, Real, once again, dropped points to inferior competition, splitting the difference 1-1 with Girona.
It was another pathetic performance from Alvaro Arbeloa's men, and Real Madrid have a lot of work to do if they want to turn the tide in the second leg against Bayern Munich. Here are the player ratings from Real's 1-1 draw with Girona in La Liga.
GK Andriy Lunin, 6.0
LB Fran Garcia, 6.0
He works hard for the team and isn't even one of the top three biggest problems at Real Madrid, but it is honestly hard to say what he truly does well. He is such just an unremarkably average player.
CB Eder Militao, 6.0
The main thing is that he stayed healthy. There's really not much else you can say about this performance. He tried to join the attacks and was decent enough defensively, but he was never really tested or all that active either.
CB Raul Asencio, 6.0
Did better than expected. Led the team in passes, completed 96 percent of them, and didn't take any risks defensively. He's not the reason why Real failed to win.
RB Dani Carvajal, 5.0
In a huge spot with a lot of criticism about his performances this season, Dani Carvajal proved Alvaro Arbeloa right for discarding him. There is no reason why a player who is as finished as him should be starting for Real Madrid anymore. It's time to go.
CM Jude Bellingham, 5.5
Although he did a great job of trying to progress the ball and drive things forward, Jude Bellingham honestly fell victim, yet again, to his own crime of trying to do too much. He also didn't offer enough ball winning, especially up the pitch. This was a disappointing game from the Englishman.
DM Eduardo Camavinga, 4.0
You can see the athleticism and ball winning, as well as improved passing and chance creation. But when it comes to all the fine details that even Arbeloa talks about in terms of marking properly and defending, Camavinga has shown no growth. Andriy Lunin was right to light into Cama for some woeful defensive blocking and positioning on Thomas Lemar's goal. He's not been good enough.
CM Fede Valverde, 5.5
A sloppy performance. Fede Valverde was lucky that Girona's keeper botched his long shot so badly, because Fede was poor overall. He did not defend particularly well, and his passing was just not on the pace. He had a couple of nice balls to Kylian Mbappe and the forwards, but in terms of exerting control on the midfield, he and his teammates really failed.
LW Vinicius Junior, 6.5
The work rate was high, as was the desire to be dangerous, but the final product just was not there for Vinicius Junior. He still takes too many touches, and while he is great at drawing fouls and creating havoc, that final bit of quality eluded him vs. Girona.
CF Kylian Mbappe, 3.0
Horrible. The worst player on the pitch, and only those easily deceived would dare praise him. As he always does, Kylian Mbappe screwed Real Madrid over. He lost the ball so many times with unforced errors and took bad shot after bad shot, rather than playing for his teammates. Mbappe's shot selection is among the worst in the league, and his positioning off to the flanks instead of centrally also destroys Real Madrid. And his defensive contributions will always be nil. Right now, he is the most overrated player in the world.
RW Brahim Diaz, 8.0
The best player on the pitch for Real Madrid and the only one worth praising. Brahim Diaz was so, so good in those tight spaces, dusting Girona's defenders with his choppy dribbling. He created a whopping seven chances for Real Madrid, force feeding Kylian Mbappe with balls in the box that the striker should have done so much better with.
