Real Madrid traveled to the Iberostar Stadium and, once again, found it difficult to crack the islanders. Mallorca dominated them defensively for much of the 90 minutes, and just when it seemed like Real had a draw rescued via a returning Eder Militao, Vedat Muriqie sunk Merengue hearts just days before their big tilt with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Here are the player ratings from a poor 2-1 loss on the road for Real Madrid vs. Mallorca.
GK Andriy Lunin
Andriy Lunin had no chance for either of the great goals Mallorca scored. He actually commanded his box well, but, in all honesty, he didn't make any fantastic saves either.
Rating: 6.0
LB Alvaro Carreras
Alvaro didn't defend badly and created a couple of chances for Real Madrid on that left side, but he has to do a better job of progressing the ball and winning it higher up the pitch against an opponent like Mallorca. There is an open competition at the left back position, and Alvaro hurt his chances by failing to mark Muriqie properly for Mallorca's winner while showing little verve to support the attack.
Rating: 5.5
CB Dean Huijsen
Hooked off after a decent defensive performance. He won possession plenty of times, cleared his lines quickly, built up out of the back at a high level, and helped keep Vedat Muriqi at bay. He was at no fault for the goal, which was the result of a brilliant run into the box from midfield.
Rating: 6.5
CB Antonio Rudiger
Sloppy on the bal and more likely to blame his teammates for not marking properly, rather than taking the responsibiltiy himself. Antonio Rudiger looks good to the average fan watching the game, but to anyone studying leadership in defense and what it means to elevate a back line, all Rudiger does is sink Real Madrid lower. Militao's return could not come soon enough.
Rating: 5.0
RB Trent Alexander-Arnold
Although Trent Alexander-Arnold assisted the equalizer via a corner and created a couple of other nice chances from crosses, everything else he did was terrible. And even the creativity wasn't impressive, because if you are going to get nine chances to put the ball into the box, then at least one of them had better lead to a goal. Trent continues to be a liability defensively and is no threat to defenses as a dribbler. He still hasn't proven that his best days are not behind him.
Rating: 4.5
CM Eduardo Camavinga
Although Camavinga worked hard for the team to win possession and create chances, his movement off the ball was suspect. The young Frenchman was at fault for not picking up the run on Mallorca's opener, and it just feels like his game isn't advancing enough. There is still too much sloppiness and a lack of critical thinking of the next step forward, particulalry with his positioning.
Rating: 5.5
CM Aurelien Tchouameni
A subpar performance from Aurelien Tchouameni. He failed to help Real Madrid control the midfield against an inferior side in Mallorca, as you would have expected Real to always be secure and in command. Tchou has been great in recent weeks, but this was a step in the wrong direction.
Rating: 5.0
LM Arda Guler
Although he created several dangerous chances down the left hand side for his teammates, his overall contributions to the game were lacking. Playing Arda Guler on the left hand side is a waste of his talents, because he's not going to be able to stretch the defense, progress the ball, or play end to end defense. He's just not that profile of a player. The glimpses of technical quality were there, but the overall influence on the match was not.
Rating: 6.0
RM Manuel Angel
Had some bright moments on the ball and looked composed with his passing while providing great movement from the right side. This was a positive performance that the young Manuel Angel can continue to build off of.
Rating: 6.5
LF Kylian Mbappe
Although Kylian Mbappe provided the only real attacking spark for Real Madrid with his ability to create chances for himself off the dribble, it is so frustrating to see how little Mbappe is able to get himself open in central areas and in the box. Mbappe still hasn't mastered the game mentally, and, once again in a tough La Liga battle, he let his teammates down by failing to help out defensively. The quality is always there, but the production is more inconsistent than the raw data will show you.
Rating: 5.0
RF Brahim Diaz
After shining against his former club Manchester City in the Champions League, this was a massive step back. Alvaro Arbeloa wants to give Brahim Diaz more opportunities, but if this is how he is going to make use of his starts in La Liga, then the manager will have to rescind those comments. Brahim was woeful. He would hide behind defenders, barely commanding the ball. He created nothing, won no dribbles, drew no fouls, and barely worked for the team either. It was as if he didn't even play.
