The 26/27 season is rapidly approaching and Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid still have a number of decisions to make with who makes the squad and who unfourntanetly misses out. There are a number of players who are on the fringes of making the squad who need to maximize the pre-season in order to solidify there place in Mourinho's team. However for two players in particular, it seems the decision has already been made no matter who strong their pre-season is.
As being reported by MadridXtra on X, Raul Asencio and Franco Mastantuono are expected to leave the club on loan this summer as their places in the squad become more uncertain as the days pass. After the new arrivals this summer consistent playing time isn't guaranteed for either player and instead of having them rot on the bench all season Real Madrid will look to loan them out for gametime and development.
Asencio and Mastantuono seem to have missed the cut
Both players will no doubt feel hard done by this decision as both have shown that they have what it takes to be a member of the squad, Asencio more so than Mastantuono, but at the end of the day for a club like Real Madrid that employs some of the best of the best, it takes another level to make the squad and from Jose Mourinho and the clubs perspective they aren't at that level yet and that's not a dig at either player.
Both players are still young, Asencio 23-years-old and Mastantuono still only 18-years-old and they've shown glimpses of what they can bring to the table and with a year away from the club for more development, they could come back to Real Madrid as completely new players.
With the arrival of Ibrahima Konate and potentially another central defender, as well as Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger, and Dean Huijsen already at the club it's an uphill fight for Asencio to get minutes and he's shown in the past he has what it takes to play for Real Madrid but just not now, so going out on loan realistically is what's best for his career. And the same can be said for Franco, in an attack with Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Brahim Diaz, as well as Endrick returning from loan and Rodrygo returning from injury, minutes will be impossible to come by so for a player his age a loan move makes all the sense in the world.
Where exactly each player will be playing next season remains unknown but there have been clubs that have shown interest in them this summer. Asencio has been linked with a move to Besiktas of all places, and Franco has a number of La Liga clubs interested in the prospect of a loan. At the end of the day there's only enough room for 27 players in the squad and Jose Mourinho will have to make tough decisions no matter what and this is surely the first of many the manager will make in the coming weeks.
