It is exceedingly difficul to choose just one GOAT manager in the history of Real Madrid, but if there is one betting favorite, then it is Zinedine Zidane for winning three straight Champions League titles in a row in an unprecedented feat. Not only that, but he came back to the club in 2019 after Cristiano Ronaldo's departure and an embarrassing 2018/19 campaign, immediately winning the league with a record defensive performane and later setting up the club for success with two Champions League titles under Carlo Ancelotti shortly afterwards.

Zizou's success in the dugout was no accident either. Real Madrid groomed him for success as an elite manager with the perfect traits to succeed in the unique(ly toxic) environment at the Santiago Bernabeu where Florentino Perez and the egos of the locker room rule.

He began his coaching career after his legendary playing career as an understudy to Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho, learning under arguably the two greatest managers of all time to that point. He imbibed the ideals of two very different personalities and specifically, starting under Mourinho, worked as a liason between the players and the big man in charge himself.

Jose Mourinho could use extra help

According to a report from MARCA, Real Madrid feel like they have missed this kind of a figure in the dressing room and are considering bringing back the Zinedine Zidane role, of course with a different manager serving as the understudy to Mourinho and the one quelling player concerns at the source while reporting to the coach.

Although Alvaro Arbeloa has been floated as an assistant and has a great relationship with Mourinho stemming from their days together when he was a Real Madrid starter under the Special One, the volatile situation with Kylian Mbappe and others like Alvaro Carreras likely preclude him from this role. While Arbeloa has more important allies in the locker room like Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Fede Valverde compared to adversaries.

But maybe it's time to bring in a legendary Real Madrid player who, like Zinedine Zidane did, commands a lot of respect after a great playing career but also has the temprament to be a top manager at this sort of a club. And at the very least, having another hand on deck will help Jose Mourinho a lot, especially with how volatile - and even violent - this locker room situation has gotten in the Spanish capital.
