Real Madrid preparing to terminate flop Brazilian youngster's contract

Running a football club means taking a lot of gambles. And Real Madrid take too many of them. As with gambling, a lot has to fail for a single chance to shine. And so it is with betting on football players, especially young ones.

I don’t know if it’s particularly Florentino Perez or his entire board, but the fixation this club has developed with young Brazilians over the past decade or so is tremendous. It’s as if they cannot afford to miss out on another Neymar when the next one comes up.

They took the gamble with Vinicius, and it paid off. They gambled with Rodrygo, and it paid too, if the recent dip in form is to be set aside. They gambled with Endrick, and it has been a decent ride so far.

But they also gambled on another Brazilian youngster: Reinier Jesus.

The attacking midfielder was signed by Los Blancos in 2020 for a reported fee of 30 million. Real Madrid paid for the talent he was attracting a lot of attention for in Brazil, and hoped the sum paid would turn out to be a wise investment. But it didn’t.

Reinier Jesus is no longer in Real Madrid’s future plans

The situation with Jesus is sad. After only three appearances with Castilla, he was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund, where he did not impress much. And thus began the unending spiral of dismal loans across Girona, Frosinone, and Granada, none of which reflected the promise he showed when Madrid signed him.

Now, there’s no hope left for Jesus to make it to the first team of Real Madrid. His contract with the club is set to expire next summer, but the club wants to offload him this summer itself.

According to Diario AS, the intention, first and foremost, is to find a club that would make a suitable offer to buy him out. But the situation is so bleak that there is little optimism on that front.

And if no offer arrives, the club is not ruling out the possibility of terminating his contract so that he can move to another club as a free agent.

And honestly, it is best that a way out is found this summer itself. There was some promise in his early days, but it has been lost somewhere, and for now, there’s no place for him in Real Madrid’s future.
