Chelsea star defensive midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been begging for a Real Madrid move for months now, and he is making it clear through the media that he only wants Madrid and would like them to start coming for him formally soon. But Real Madrid, while interested in the player, have other options they are weighing. Jose Mourinho is very interested in Jorge Mendes client over at West Ham United Mateus Fernandes, who is a top target for both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
But the real gem breaking out that many Madridistas want to see the club sign, even above the previous World Cup winner Enzo, is Ayyoub Bouaddi or Morocco. Brahim Diaz's teammate in the national team, Bouaddi was always one of the best young prospects in French football, and the 18 year old already was brilliant in Ligue 1 for Lille last season as one of the best holding midfielders in the league.
Real Madrid have been ramping up their interest in Bouaddi in the World Cup after his incredible breakout performance against Brazil in Morocco's first match in which he bossed Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes, showing elite defensive qualities and work on the ball to retain possession, including progressive possession.
Real Madrid's gem of choice is becoming clearer
Quietly, Real Madrid are following Ayyoub Bouaddi closely. According to a report from Ruben Martin of Diario AS, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid scouts were there in person at his latest World Cup matchup against Scotland to get another close look at the Lille standout. And while the young man was not as scintillating as he was against Brazil, he still controlled the midfield very easily against Scotland with another positive performance for his country.
Bouaddi looks set to cost whichever club that is interested in him 70 million euros, and while that is quite the chunk of change for a teenage player, he has been worth that kind of money. PSG are also highly interested in Bouaddi, and Real Madrid are going to have to go tooth and nail again with their Champions League rivals for another elite French prospect - but the advantage Real have, despite PSG winning the last two Champions League titles, is that Lille probably do not want to make PSG even stronger.
Real Madrid will continue to follow Bouaddi closely, and while Enzo Fernandez is a wonderful footballer, Bouaddi has the potential to be even better for even longer.
