Real Madrid will be bringing on Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate on bargain deals this summer transfer window to bolster a defense that has not been good for years, even when Carlo Ancelotti was winning them Champions League titles.

And so Real Madrid do not want to just stop at the new right back and center back. They want potentially two more players at the center back and left back positions, and if they can kill two birds with one stone, then they will gladly take a player who can shine at both positions.

That is why Riccardo Calafiori of Arsenal has become an attractive option, but Real Madrid seem to be even more interested in Josko Gvardiol of Manchester City, whom they were highly keen on signing years ago when he was RB Leipzig. But as with Erling Haaland, Man City signed the Croatian star without much of a fight, as Real Madrid were way too preoccupied with Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid have never lost sight of Josko Gvardiol

But they are back in for Gvardiol this summer. According to a report from Sportske Novosti, via the Madrid Zone, Manchester City are doing their best to convince the young star to stay at the Etihad. Man City are going to submit a renewal offer to Gvardiol, but, as of right now, the Croatian international wants to leave the Premier League giants.

So Manchester City are setting a high asking price for Real Madrid to sign him. The Citizens want 90 million euros if they are to lose him this summer transfer window to their Champions League rivals, but, again, they will continue to do the most to keep him around.

It makes sense for Manchester City to ask for so much for Josko Gvardiol. Not only is he a great player and a highly unique athlete who is world class at both center back and left back, but Man City also paid a lot of money to get him in the first place. He cost them 90 million euros in the summer 2023 transfer window from RB Leipzig, and he was not as experienced at that time either.

Asking for the same price is about fair, and Real Madrid fans will see how serious Florentino Perez and Jose Mourinho are about Gvardiol in particular. Because other options like Nico Schlotterbeck could be cheaper, while Riccardo Calafiori is unlikely to cost this much either. And then Alessandro Bastoni is an even bigger target for Mourinho, so he may well push for the Inter Milan man if Gvardiol is going to cost this much anyway.
