Real Madrid are keen on strengthening their midfield this summer and it seems the Premier League could be a focus for the recruitment team. The La Liga heavyweights have been linked with two of the English top-flight's top stars who have starred for their teams this season.

The first of those is Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain. The Portuguese playmaker has been the main man at Old Trafford ever since he arrived from Sporting CP back in early 2020.

Fernandes has made 22 appearances across competitions this season, posting five goals and 11 assists. He signed a new deal last year which keeps him tied to the Red Devils until 2027.

Real Madrid eyeing Premier League's Bruno duo

According to Fichajes, Madrid could pull off a deal for Fernandes at around €40-50 million. The player claimed that he felt United were trying to offload him last summer so there might be an opportunity for Los Blancos to swoop for his signature.

A potential move for the 31-year-old could jeopardize Jude Bellingham's future at the Estadio Bernabeu. There are reports claiming that the club could consider offers for the Englishman if his performances don't improve.

Fernandes isn't the only high-profile Premier League midfielder who Madrid have their sights on. Newcastle United skipper Bruno Guimaraes is also a reported target with the Brazilian shining at St James' Park.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in Eddie Howe's midfield, appearing 33 times across competitions and posting eight goals and six assists this season. He will have two years left on his contract this summer.

TEAMtalk reports that Guimaraes would be a top target if Jurgen Klopp were to become Los Blancos' new permanent manager. It's even suggested that the German has "already requested" the Brazil international be added to the club's shortlist.

Madrid talk about Bruno - Guimaraes should be prioritised over Fernandes

If it comes down to a decision of one or the other then Madrid must focus on signing Guimaraes because he can be a long-term solution. Fernandes remains one of Europe's best playmakers but he is heading into the latter stages of his career.

There are similarities between the pair but Guimaraes is probably more defensively sound than Fernandes. He is unlikely to demand the kind of wages the United star would desire given the latter is one of the highest earners in the Premier League.

Guimaraes has been with Newcastle since early 2022 when he arrived from Lyon and he has grown into a leader on Tyneside. He captained the Magpies to the Carabao Cup last season.
