Real Madrid centre-back Dean Huijsen has officially been suspended for one game after his direct red card against Atletico Madrid last Sunday. Most players usually get a straight 2-3-match ban, but some do get just one game off. The suspension length can vary from one game to three, depending on the severity of the foul.
Even though Huijsen’s was technically a goal-saving foul as a last man, it was still not cynical. He simply pulled Giuliano Simeone’s arm as the last man in defence, which is why he was sent off, but not because it was a particularly cynical challenge.
That is probably why Huijsen has got away with just getting one game off for Real Madrid, meaning that he will miss the clash against Villarreal right after the international break.

It is not an ideal position because you miss out on one of your best players of the season so far for a very tough game against Villarreal. Villarreal did not start the season off in the best possible way, but have been improving lately, and regardless of their form, this game has historically been difficult for Real Madrid, and it will likely be no different in October.
Hopefully, it serves as a wake-up call for Huijsen so that he does not make the same mistake ever again. He has already done this three times, which is why everyone is a bit worried about whether he will continue doing this subconsciously in the future.
At the moment, though, it is the best out of a bad situation because Hausen would only miss that one game. He will still be available for the Clasico later in October and any other games after the one against the Yellow Submarine. Hopefully, the former Bournemouth man is able to get back to his best after that and not have his season derailed the way it did last time around (when he had a really bad performance against Atletico Madrid in the 5-2 loss).
Huijsen does have Mourinho as his coach, which hopefully would have an impact because the manager has always been a big fan of him. The expectation and hope for Real Madrid fans is that Huijsen is able to go to the next level, not just from a footballing sense but also mentally – which would include not having lapses of concentration like this, as well as not letting that affect his overall season.
No one can say for sure, though, and it will be interesting to see how the Spanish international reacts when he comes back to play for Real Madrid after Villarreal.
