Real Madrid star Ibrahima Konate will likely be back for the game against Villarreal right after the end of the international break, according to a report from COPE.
Konate got injured in the first few days of the international break, and was sent back to Madrid from the camp because he was going to be out for a couple of weeks.
It could have been bad, but the tests ruled out anything too serious, meaning that, in about three weeks from the day of the injury, he could be ready to play football again.
This extended international break has been a blessing in disguise
Real Madrid fans, and all football fans are generally hating on the extended international break because it means club football takes a sad halt for three weeks.
However, it does seem like this international break has been a bit of a blessing in disguise for these fans. Losing Konate and Kylian Mbappé is something that happened during the international break, but the extra week also gave the team a chance to recover the players before their next game, which is why it has turned out to be a not-so-bad thing.
Same with Mbappé: he did get injured during France's win over Turkey, but he might also make it to the Villarreal game because of the extended international break. If this break was only for two weeks, like it usually is, Real Madrid would probably miss both Konate and Mbappé for at least one more match, which would have had quite an effect on the season because Villarreal are a very difficult team.
It would have been difficult to see them win it without their most prolific goalscorer and their best defender of the season so far.
It is also worth noting that Raul Asencio has been ruled out for the foreseeable future because he is getting surgery on his right leg. If Konate were to remain injured for the Villarreal game, Real Madrid would only have Antonio Rudiger to play against the Yellow Submarine as the only fit natural centre back. Dean Huijsen is suspended, and Eder Militao has still not returned from his injury. If Konate wasn't there either, it would have been Aurelien Tchouameni partnering Rudiger in defence, which is not ideal at all.
Whether he actually makes it or not remains to be seen, but it is a good thing that Konate’s injury is not as serious as people were fearing. His presence will be crucial against Villarreal.
