Real Madrid has started their squad rebuild this summer with the announcments of new signings Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva. However just as important as new arrivals are departures of surplus players that no longer figure into the manager's plans, and Real Madrid just rejected a bid by Xabi Alonso to bring one of his favorite defender's with him to Chelsea this summer.

As being reported by The Mirror, Real Madrid have rejected a bid of €25 million from Chelsea for left-back Alvaro Carreras, with former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso hopeful of luring the defender to join him at Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea are in the market for a left-back following Marc Cucurella's move to Real Madrid and were looking to swoop in for one of Real's surplus left-backs.

Real Madrid reject Xabi Alonso's bid to bring Carreras to Chelsea

Carreras was the starting left-back for the majority of last season, however he failed to deliver what the club was expecting with his €50 million price tag and following the signing of Marc Cucurella this summer, Carreras has seemingly fallen to being the backup left-back, and Xabi Alonso is keen on taking advantage of the situation to bolster his squad and secure his backline ahead of the new season.

Xabi Alonso was the manager who brought Carreras to the Bernabeu and was a major supporter of the player, and is keen to reunite with him, however this time in the Premier League. Alonso believes Carreras is the perfect replacement for Cucurella, and wants Chelsea to do whatever it takes to bring the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge before the end of the transfer window.

Chelsea's initial bid of €25 million was rejected by Los Blancos, with the club looking for a figure closer to the €50 million they paid to Benfica to bring in the defender last summer. Whether or not Chelsea will meet Real's demands remains unknown at this time with talks still ongoing between the two clubs.

Following Cucurella's arrival Real Madrid now have a surplus at left-back with all of Cucurella, Carreras, and Ferland Mendy occupying that position, and having three left-back just isn't necessary meaning one of the two will have to go. Many would point to Mendy due to his ridiculous injury history in recent years, however when he does play he is rock solid defensively, and Real would be able to get more money selling Carreras than a beat up and injured Ferland Mendy. Carreras returned for pre-season this week, but it could be the last we see of him in a Real Madrid kit with Xabi Alonso pushing hard for this deal to get over the line soon.
