At this point, the vast majority of Real Madrid fans want Jose Mourinho and only Jose Mourinho to be their next manager. Jurgen Klopp is the other huge name and storied manager linked closely to the Merengues this offseason, but a reunion with Mourinho, who proved himself at the Santiago Bernabeu more than a decade ago in buildin the La Decima squad to challenge Pep Guardiola's greatest ever Barcelona team beforehand to win La Liga, is the clear dream for president Florentino Perez.
As time goes on and the Real Madrid locker room somehow gets more messy and dysfunctional with players leaking hate at each other, even trying to get players transferred out, Mourinho is becoming a more appealing name. It may take an ego and personality like Mou to bring the egoes of players like Kylian Mbappe in check.
According to a report from Abraham P. Romero of El Mundo, via the Madrid Zone, Jose Mourinho is indeed the main name and the Plan A to replace Alvaro Arbeloa as Real Madrid manager this summer. However, there is a Plan B, and while it was initially thought to be Jurgen Klopp, Romero reports that it is actually Didier Deschamps.
Didier Deschamps sounds like a disaster
Most Real Madrid fans are very against Deschamps. They wanted Zinedine Zidane - who was actually Florentino Perez's dream name but had rejected Real for the French job that Deschamps will finally vacate after the 2026 World Cup - and they view Deschamps as inferior. They also did not like the way Deschamps placated to French captain Kylian Mbappe and the years of mistreated Real Madrid legend Karim Benzema.
But apparently, Real Madrid like Deschamps as an alternative to Mourinho because of how he has navigated the egoes in the French national team. In that sense, they may be implying that they like how Deschamps was able to work with Kylian Mbappe.
Deschamps has no real coaching accomplishments besides those at France, where he won the 2018 World Cup behind an amazing squad but arguably underperformed in the other tournaments - even the one where he reached the 2022 World Cup Final.
It seems highly unlikely for Didier Deschamps to manage Real Madrid. The fact that he is the second name to Mourinho is a shock, but it may also be because Klopp is not as interested. And the others do not seem to be as interested either, or maybe Real Madrid just don't like Mauricio Pochettino and Max Allegri as much as the media previously reported. Either way, Mourinho is by far the best option.
