Real Madrid center midfielder Nico Paz and manager Jose Mourinho had an honest heart to heart whereby Mou made it clear to Paz that he could not guarantee the Argentinian international minutes in a crowded midfield with more signings planned, while Paz came away from that knowing that he may still need more seasoning at Como before being able to go toe to toe with the heavyweights in the dressing room.
But Paz, to his credit, outplayed all those guys under Cesc Fabregas last season, shining as the best player in all of Serie A and arguably a top five player in the world as he scored, created, dribbled, and even defended Como to a historic Champions League qualification.
Although there were rumors of Como potentially not paying the 60 million euros to buy him from Real Madrid on a new deal and the likes of Inter Milan and the Premier League being interested in him, the most logical option as won out.
The best case for Nico Paz and Real Madrid
According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Como will indeed buy Nico Paz back, and after lengthy discussions between the Serie A up and comers and Real Madrid, the Italian side have agreed to meet a 60 million euro valuation of the player. On top of that, Real Madrid will retain some sort of a buy back clause, though Fab did not reveal specifics, as well as a sell on clause in case Paz blows up but cannot make it back to Real Madrid anyway.
This was the best case scenario for Paz and an even better solution for Real Madrid than many fans would have anticipated. Paz gets to stay and grow at Como under Cesc Fabregas, finishing what he started with the Champions League qualification, and that is the best case for the development of the Argentinian international.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid get cash up front now to help fund other transfers in midfield like Enzo Fernandez, but they still have full control over Paz's destiny. If they want him back in 2027, which is still the expected outcome right now, then they can buy him back for not too much more, and he will be worth it if he is the caliber of player Madrid want back. And if they can't accommodate him but he becomes an even bigger superstar, Real Madrid can still get more money out of the deal with the sell on clause.
