Is Chema the answer to Real Madrid's midfield woes?
Despite still being only 21-years-old Chema could prove to be the missing link in the Real Madrid midfield. We live in a day and age when clubs have to put faith in their youngsters to be a difference maker, something Real Madrid are always reluctant to do, but this could be the opportunity for Real Madrid to final change their mindset, and the youngster showed this season why he can be trusted.
As mentioned earlier Chema was sold to Stuttgart this past summer for only €3 million and had a breakout season with the German club. The midfielder made 39 appearances across all competitions this season and managed to grab four goals and two assists, and was a key part in helping Stuttgart reach the DFB Pokal Final, which they ultimately lost to Bayern Munich. The youngster showed incredible poise and composure this season, playing with an intelligence far beyond his years.
Chema his calm on the ball, plays the right pass, does the defensive work and can serve as the tempo setter in the midfield. Real have been desperate for a player similar to Toni Kroos since the German's retirement, and Chema shows early signs of being exactly that kind of player and still has all the potential in the world to get even better.
As mentioned earlier Real Madrid retianed a €10 million buy-back option when they sold him, which is pocket change for a club like Real Madrid, but could prove to be the most important €10 million they've spent in recent years. All signs point to no new midfielder arriving this summer, but it wouldn't hurt Real Madrid to keep a close eye on Chema and consider bringing him back in the near future and putting faith in their academy product to be a big player in the team.
