The big talk surrounding Real Madrid this summer has been about what midfielder the club will sign to finally replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Real has been linked with almost every midfielder imaginable this summer and have seemed to have landed on Manchester City midfielder Rodri as their last missing piece to Jose Mourinho's puzzle this summer. However, the club have been hesitant to get his signing done in a quick fashion, which has brought their bitter rivals into play, hoping they can hijack the signing.
As being reported by MadridXtra on X, Barcelona are keeping an eye on Rodri's situation with uncertainty still surrounding a move to the Bernabeu. If Real Madrid don't get a deal done, they will attempt their own move for the midfielder despite the players priority being Real Madrid and Barcelona know this.
Barcelona hopes to ruin Real Madrid's season before it even starts
Real Madrid have been quite quick this summer getting their signings over the line with deals for Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva all coming together quite quickly but when it comes to Rodri there seems to be hesitation for some reason, something that is confusing to many fans. Real seem to even be working to get the deal for Yan Diomande done quickly while putting Rodri on the back burner, when he is the signing that is more necessary than Diomande.
Real have hesitated getting deals over the line in recent years with the club showing interest in players like Estevao and Leny Yoro but failing to get deals done with the players ultimately joining Chelsea and Manchester United respectively. And even going back further and also relating to Barcelona, Real showed an interest in Luis Suarez during his Liverpool days before he ended up at the Camp Nou. With Real now hesitating on Rodri Barca could look to swoop in and destroy Real Madrid's season before it even officially gets underway.
A deal for Rodri is expected to cost somewhere between €60-€75 million, with Manchester City sticking closer to the €75 million mark. Talks are still ongoing between the two clubs with Rodri having already agreed terms with Los Blancos.
Now while Barca could always come in and hijack the move it still seems very unlikely with Rodri only wanting to make the move to the Bernabeu and nowhere else. However nothing is ever for certain in the world of football, so it would be in Real Madrid's best interest to get this deal over the line quickly and before the Diomande signing as Rodir is the player they need more if they hope to get back to the top of the mountain of European football this season.
