Real Madrid defender Ibrahima Konate was once again an awesome force of nature against Inter on Tuesday night, and it only goes on to show what a brilliant signing he is quickly turning out to be.
This was not Konate’s best performance of the season so far, but all of his games have been great for Real Madrid, and he already looks like someone who has been there for a while. Konate’s fit has been so seamless, and combined with the brilliant uptick in form for Dean Huijsen, Real Madrid finally have a good defensive partnership.
He has been Real Madrid’s best signing of the summer so far without a hint of a doubt, which has made the team much more solid at the back than they have been in recent years. Obviously, Real Madrid’s injury issues in the defense department have been well documented in the past, which is also why Konate seems like such a reassuring presence.

Real Madrid no longer have to worry about Antonio Rudiger’s declining physical and footballing state, while they would no longer be scarred by Eder Militao constant injury pick-ups that keep him out for the long term.
Konate has also had some small issues in terms of injuries in the past, but in the last season or two, he has improved in that regard. The main worry with him was whether Jose Mourinho would be able to bring out the best in him after the difficult season he had under Arne Slot for Liverpool last season, and the answer to that already seems to be a resounding yes.
Konate has been a rock at the back for Real Madrid, and is proving himself to be the defender this team has been lacking for the longest time. He is brilliant when he goes up to put pressure on the striker, which he did wonderfully well against Inter. His brilliant presence from a physical point of view is imposing enough to throw off any attacker, and it seems like after a full season of personal problems as well as general issues with Liverpool’s form, Konate seems to have his mojo back.
There is no bit of news as important to Real Madrid as this, because they have long desired for a centre-back pairing to be as solid as the current one is. It is still the early stages of the season, and anything can happen in the future, but so far, Real Madrid look really good. The two defenders complement each other magnificently well, and Konate, in particular, has proven himself to be a brilliant addition after playing just four games for the club.
