Real Madrid are in a state of crisis right now, and while president Florentino Perez will agree with that because the team is without any trophies for a second straight season, for Madridistas, the bigger crisis if the organizational dysfunction that has become impossible to paper over. Veteran leaders like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Nacho Fernandez are long gone, and the characters in the dressing room can no longer lead this team, manage the egos, or make up for the issues in squad management that Perez and the board have exacerbated.
Los Blancos are on the verge of becoming a walking disaster. Moving on from Alvaro Arbeloa is their next move, but if they hire someone worse who is both incompetent and cannot manage the big personalities in the building, then they will really teeter over the brink into another banter era like the one Zinedine Zidane saved them from in 2019.
Real Madrid have too many attacking egos. They don't have enough quality in the midfield and defense. They lack control over matches. If a couple of key players in that defense and midfield go down with injury, Real become a disaster.
And instead of doing something about their actual problems, Real Madrid want to make things worse. They will continue to back the incompatible pairing of Vinicius Junior and the self centered forward they should have never signed from PSG.
Real Madrid have no idea what they are doing these days
Meanwhile, instead of improving weak area of the squad, Real Madrid want to cull. According to a report from MARCA, via the Madrid Zone, Real Madrid want to decrease the size of the squad for the 2026/27 season. They believe their issues come from having too many players competing for positions and that feelings are getting hurt, so they want to go thinner.
That sounds crazy and the antithesis of what Real Madrid is about. There needs to be depth to withstand injuries and win all the titles. You can't compete at the highest level in all competitions in modern football without depth, and the best Real Madrid teams in that three peat era had insane depth. They also had players who didn't have massive egos and would instead push themselves to be better and earn those minutes.
The policy at Real Madrid needs go back to what it was. If you are a young player and don't want to compete like Martin Odegaard was, it doesn't matter how good you are. You need to get the heck out. If you are an old player who causes malcontent because you want the minutes you think you are entitled to because you used to be a legend, then you need to get out. Even Iker Casillas was not above the law. If Real Madrid need to cull, that is who they need to release, not good players who are competing for minutes and making the team better like Gonzalo Garcia or Thiago Pitarch.
